By Strokes was founded by Naledi Seabi in 2016 in Johannesburg, South Africa. Our brand combines beautiful, quality fabrics, with an eye for fit and quality of design, to produce sophisticated pieces for the fashion-forward and effortlessly modern women. By Strokes champions slow fashion and strives to produce high-quality, impactful designs ethically and sustainably.

By Strokes is a made-to-order, low-waste, sustainable fashion brand. We are committed to creating pieces that are simultaneously versatile and elegantly tailored. In order to reduce waste and minimize the effects of fashion overconsumption, we produce exactly as many garments as ordered.
Due to our brand utilising the made-to-order philosophy, the pieces can be considered one-of-a-kind as the repetition of a silhouette or fabric is unlikely. Our designs feature strong silhouettes, clean lines, and statement pieces that will elevate any closet. We believe that these characteristics are essential for creating timeless pieces that not only can be worn all year around, but also for years to come.

By Strokes is committed to reducing our environmental impact, by putting sustainability at the forefront of our business and design practices. We have implemented systems to create the most beautiful, high-quality pieces with the least impact on our planet.
By adopting a made-to-order business model and intending to produce small-batch pieces, By Strokes can minimise focus on overproduction and overconsumption, and maximise focus on the pieces, the people, and the planet.

We focus on quality, not quantity, in both production and consumption. Our goal is not based on the mindset of “less is more,” but rather on the mindset that “quality clothing should consider the earth.”
We practice manufacturing that respects the environment by using low-waste processes and avoid using harmful chemicals
We believe in providing workers with a living wage and healthy working conditions.
We produce collections in small batches or on a pre-order basis to avoid the problem of unsold inventory.
We implement an uncomplicated supply chain where raw materials and labour aren’t scattered across the globe. We support local materials and employ local workers as much as possible.
